2006 Rolex 16710 GMT Master II
2006 Rolex 16710 GMT Master II
Story
One of the last great Pepsi-style Rolex watches of the 16710 generation
Rolex GMT watches were first introduced in the 50s for commercial pilots who needed a simple instrument to track multiple time zones simultaneously. It was rumored that Pan-Am Airlines consulted with Rolex to build a watch that could do this, and thus, the GMT was born. This 16710 reference can be seen as the modern archetype for the category.
The 16710 GMT marked the last run of its neo-vintage style, featuring an aluminum Pepsi insert and a thinner case profile. After the 16710 generation ended, the next-generation model took over, moving away from aluminum inserts and making a solid black ceramic bezel the new standard. This specific example is in excellent condition and is the last of a great generation of GMTs.
