Story

Woven huaraches from the heart of the Mexican highlands

The Veracruz Derby is a blend of coastal tradition and refined city style. Taking its name from Mexico’s historic "Great Port," itreimagines the ancient art of the huarache into a sophisticated, hand-laced shoe. Each pair is a labor of time, hand-cut and intricately woven by indigenous artisans using 100% vegetable-tanned leather. Because the leather is finished "naked"—tanned only with natural barks and plants—it breathes exceptionally well and develops a deep, honeyed patina that tells the story of every mile you walk.

Features

  • Handwoven 100% vegetable-tanned leather upper provides a custom, breathable fit
  • Soft crepe outsole offers superior underfoot comfort, durability, and slip resistance
  • Traditional "naked" leather finish highlights the natural grain and allows for a rich, unique patina
  • Reinforced hand-cut construction ensures long-lasting resilience for travel and daily use
  • Ethical, small-batch production preserves ancestral Mexican huarache techniques

About

Founded by designer Yuki Matsuda following his travels through rural Mexico in the 1990s, Chamula strives to preserve the art of delicately-made goods in the Mexican highlands. Every product is imbued with the rich character and delightful variances that can only be achieved through the careful handiwork of master craftsmen and women.
