Story

Refined sporting tradition meets modern tailoring

Drake’s reinterprets the enduring rugby shirt as a versatile bridge between casual weekend wear and tailored looks. Cut from a densely knitted, heavyweight cotton, this idiosyncratic take on vintage sportswear offers a substantial, tactile feel. By collaborating closely with their expert shirtmakers, Drake’s has refined the traditional baggy athletic silhouette into a more elegant profile. With a higher armhole and a trimmer body, it is a truly indispensable item that feels just as at home under a blazer or suit jacket as it does with a well-worn pair of chinos or jeans.

Features

  • Shirt-Inspired Collar: Features a structured collar modeled after the brand’s signature ‘English Classic’ style for a more polished appearance.
  • Densely Knitted Cotton: Crafted from a heavyweight jersey that provides a structured drape and long-lasting durability.
  • Refined Silhouette: A trimmer body and higher armholes allow for a sophisticated fit that layers easily under tailoring.
  • Traditional Details: Equipped with a covered placket and authentic rubber buttons for a classic sporting finish.
  • Comfort Finishes: Ribbed hem and cuffs provide a secure fit and help the garment retain its shape over time.

About

Founded in 1977 by Michael Drake in East London, Drake’s made a name for themselves crafting exceptional scarves, plaids, ties, and handkerchiefs that high-end boutiques clamored for. Since then, Creative Director Michael Hall has taken the helm and expanded the brand to include outerwear, buttondowns, knitwear, and other iconic favorites with the ethos of “Relaxed Elegance.” Their tradition, however, remains. They still source waxed cotton from a historic British mill. Oxford shirts come from their own factory in Somerset. Silk ties are hand rolled in London. You get the picture. Timeless styles impeccably made—these are clothes for life.
