Story

A solar-powered timepiece with a ’70s motorsports aesthetic

Inspired by ’70s-era motorsports and Seiko’s original 1969 Speedtimer watch—the world’s first self-winding chronograph—the Prospex Speedtimer features a curved, sapphire crystal that’s been treated with an anti-reflection coating. And it’s solar-powered by Seiko’s Caliber V192 movement, which has an impressive 6-month power reserve once fully charged. A subdued color palette takes its cues from classic, lightweight sports cars of the past—seen in the watch’s handsome ivory dial, contrasting black subdials, and green tachymeter bezel. What’s more, there’s a 24-hour sub-dial as well as 2 additional sub-dials for the Prospex’s chronograph feature, which records up to 60 minutes of elapsed time in 1/5-second increments. Last but not least, LumiBrite hands and markers provide a crystal clear view of both time and the date window.
