Original Pilot - FG-58 Sunglasses
Original Pilot - FG-58 Sunglasses
Story
A limited edition of the first sunglasses on the moon
In 1969, Buzz Aldrin and Neil Armstrong landed on the moon—and had their Original Pilots with them. The FG-58 is a true-to-form tribute to the shades that were along for the ride on Apollo 11. The mirrored blue mineral glass lenses are inspired by Earth’s reflection in the visors of the astronauts’ spacesuits, while the aged silver frames evoke the moon’s rugged surface. Add in American Optical’s legendary quality, bayonet temples for comfort, and top-of-the-line optics, and you’re wearing one damn fine pair of aviators. They crafted a small batch of 500 individually-numbered pairs, and we could only get our hands on 50 of them—so snag them while you can.

About American Optical
American Optical has been supplying this country with premium quality eyewear since before Edison invented the light bulb. Nearly two centuries later and AO is going strong—still designing exceptional sunglasses, and still making them in the USA. Along the way they made fans of the Apollo 11 crew, JFK, and, well…us. We're of the opinion that a brand with that staying power and this amazing lineup is worthy of words like iconic and timeless, but no need to take our word for it. Grab a pair for yourself. You'll see.
