In 1892, the U.S. Rubber Co. acquired Charles Goodyear’s shoe business and adapted his invention of vulcanized rubber (originally used for galoshes) to create some of the world’s first vulcanized sneakers. The durability and flexibility of their outsoles earned U.S. Rubber Co. the chance to produce sneakers for a variety of other brands, as well as for the U.S. military, and led the way for the many styles of Converse and Vans you still see everywhere. With the re-release of its Military High Top, the brand honors its past with an iconic silhouette that still looks great today.
