About Merz b. Schwanen

Of all the clothing brands out there, perhaps none takes the adage “quality over quantity” more to heart than Merz b. Schwanen. Founded in 1911 by Balthazar Merz, the brand was brought back to life decades later when the future founders discovered a 90-year-old henley shirt at a Berlin flea market. They were moved by the quality of the garment to revitalize the brand and soon began a long process of restoring rare Loopwheeler machines (originally built between 1889 and 1969) in a workshop in the Swabian Alps of Germany. Each machine is dedicated to a particular size, and it takes an hour to knit enough fabric, row by row, for a single shirt. The result is a garment in timeless style crafted from soft organic cotton that just might last you 100 years.
