Story
From 1892 to 2019, the original basketball shoe silhouette, unchanged and handsome as ever
Heralded as the grandfather of the modern day basketball shoe, the once extinct Colchester Rubber Co. has stormed back in a grand fashion with their heritage High Top style leading the charge. While their beginnings in 1892 were redefining the sneaker industry, Colchester Rubber Co. fell on hard times during an economic depression in 1893 and had to close their factory doors shortly after the invention of basketball by Dr. James Naismith.
Fast forward to 2004 where an estate sale in southern California had a pair of their original 1892 Colchester High Tops on sale, and this discovery sparked a comeback for the OG basketball sneaker. Now, this vintage footwear icon is much more apt at keeping your feet comfy around the city instead of taking a beating on the hardwood—yet the performance and support of the High Tops is still unmatched.
