Story

Inspired by mountaineers of the Bernese Alps and expertly crafted in 100% virgin wool

Eiger Nordwand is a formidable 13,000 ft. peak that's so difficult to ascend that it was known as "the last problem" of the Alps. In fact, it was only first climbed in 1938, and it was those mountaineers who inspired the design of this timeless cardigan by the German knitwear masters at Heimat. With a generous shawl collar and sleeves that are attached by hand, the sweater has a superior smooth and sturdy finish, and heavy 5-gauge knit to keep the warmth in every stitch, and at pretty much any earthly altitude.

Features

  • Sleeves and collar are attached by hand for a superior finish
  • Virgin wool is the ultimate in softness and warmth
  • Natural wool oils are self-cleaning and water-resistant
  • Shawl collar with square patch pockets
  • Button front
  • Heavy-duty 5-gauge knit
  • Signature admiral stripes on the cuffs and hem inspired by their nautical heritage
  • Knitted in Germany

Materials

  • 100% virgin wool

Sizing

  • The Heimat Eiger Shawl Collar Cardigan has a slim fit that will stretch and break in with wear, so take your normal size
  • If you're between sizes, we recommend taking the larger size
  • For the best personal fit, compare the measurements of one of your best-fitting sweaters to the garment measurements below

Garment Measurements

S M L XL XXL
Chest 35⅜ 37 40¼ 42½ 44⅞
Body Length 22¾ 24¾ 26⅜ 27⅝ 28¾
Sleeve Length 21¼ 21¾ 22 23⅝ 24¾

All measurements are in inches.

How to Measure - Chest: Measure straight across from edge to edge, starting 1" below the armhole, multiply by 2 - Body Length: Start at the top of the shoulder where it meets the neck seam, and measure straight down to the hem - Sleeve Length: Start at the shoulder seam and follow the edge of the garment to the cuff. Pro tip: it’s easiest to measure across the back of the sleeve

Care

  • Machine washable at 30 degrees, lay flat to dry
  • Due to the natural oils in the wool it has a self cleaning effect, Heimat recommends hanging out overnight instead of washing after each wear

About Heimat

Throw on one of Heimat’s sturdy knits, and you’ll quickly realize sweaters were the original performance layers. Before the whole genre of “performance outerwear” was born, the world’s fishermen, mountaineers, and Steve Zissous relied on durable sweaters like these to carry them to the horizon and back with their body temperatures intact. So it makes sense that the word Heimat in German can be roughly translated to “home away from home.” Knit and handfinished in Germany with 100% soft and toasty wool, Heimat’s collection feels steeped in nostalgia. If you’re looking for classic everyday knitwear that would also gladly hop in your bag for an around-the-world voyage, you can’t do much better than these.
