Eiger Cardigan
Eiger Cardigan
Story
Inspired by mountaineers of the Bernese Alps and expertly crafted in 100% virgin wool
Eiger Nordwand is a formidable 13,000 ft. peak that's so difficult to ascend that it was known as "the last problem" of the Alps. In fact, it was only first climbed in 1938, and it was those mountaineers who inspired the design of this timeless cardigan by the German knitwear masters at Heimat. With a generous shawl collar and sleeves that are attached by hand, the sweater has a superior smooth and sturdy finish, and heavy 5-gauge knit to keep the warmth in every stitch, and at pretty much any earthly altitude.

Pro tip: it’s easiest to measure across the back of the sleeve

- Due to the natural oils in the wool it has a self cleaning effect, Heimat recommends hanging out overnight instead of washing after each wear
About Heimat
Throw on one of Heimat’s sturdy knits, and you’ll quickly realize sweaters were the original performance layers. Before the whole genre of “performance outerwear” was born, the world’s fishermen, mountaineers, and Steve Zissous relied on durable sweaters like these to carry them to the horizon and back with their body temperatures intact. So it makes sense that the word Heimat in German can be roughly translated to “home away from home.” Knit and handfinished in Germany with 100% soft and toasty wool, Heimat’s collection feels steeped in nostalgia. If you’re looking for classic everyday knitwear that would also gladly hop in your bag for an around-the-world voyage, you can’t do much better than these.
