In 1892, the U.S. Rubber Co. acquired Charles Goodyear’s shoe business and adapted his invention of vulcanized rubber (originally used for galoshes) to create the world’s first vulcanized sneaker. Thus marked one of the most enduring footwear innovations since the shoelace. The durability and flexibility of their outsoles earned U.S. Rubber Co. the chance to produce sneakers for a variety of other brands and led the way for the many styles of Converse and Vans you still see everywhere. The Colchester Contrast High Top re-creates the brand’s 1892 National Treasure silhouette, the first known basketball shoe, complete with vintage details that keep them true to the original. While they might not be the best choice for your next pick-up game, they’re a reigning champion when it comes to casual, everyday style.
