Cable Knit Shawl Cardigan Sweater
Cable Knit Shawl Cardigan Sweater
Story
Sartorial style at its finest
This cardigan from RRL blends heritage craftsmanship with modern updates. Take, for example, the Aran-knitting patterns on the front and sleeves. Not only do these design notes provide added warmth and comfort, but they also link to rich history. The special knitting process dates back to the late 1800s, when Irish fishermen living on the Aran Islands west of Galway began weaving intricate patterns from wool to represent different aspects of their culture. (One weaving pattern might indicate a specific family or clan, while another, like the popular “cable-knit” weave, is thought to represent the ropes fisherman used and be interpreted as a wish for safety when out at sea.) To shore up the functionality of this cable knit sweater, genuine horn buttons are added up the front and on the shawl collar. And lest we forget to mention the modern fabrics used to take this cardigan to the next level: a blend of linen, wool, and tussah silk ensures it lasts many enjoyable wears for years to come.
