Story

L.L.Bean’s softest fisherman sweater yet

Fisherman sweaters are rooted in the rugged Aran Islands of Ireland. They were initially knit from thick, untreated wool with its natural lanolin intact to protect local fishermen from the harsh Atlantic elements, prioritizing water resistance and warmth over next-to-skin softness. L.L.Bean adapts the traditional style in soft, organic cotton that’s comfortable from the first wear. Cut in a relaxed, traditional fit, this sweater is finished with cable knit detailing and ribbed trims along the neck, cuffs, and hem.

Features

  • Rich texture with classic cable knit detailing
  • Cut from a machine-washable organic cotton fabric
  • Ribbed trims along the collar, cuffs, and hem for a secure fit

About L.L.Bean

In 1911, Leon Leonwood Bean returned from a hunting trip with cold, damp feet and a revolutionary idea. He decided he’d create his own innovative boot—one that combined durable leather uppers with comfortable (and waterproof) rubber bottoms. Bean called it the Maine Hunting Shoe, which eventually became the famous Bean Boot. Over the next 100 years, the Freeport, Maine-based brand created one iconic product after another. The Field Coat, the Boat and Tote, and the Fisherman Sweater, to name a few. While the story of L.L.Bean is still being written, one thing will never change: the outdoors will always be at the heart of it.
