Story

The art of wielding an axe, and a little motivation to go outside

If you haven't figured it out by now, we here at Huckberry love anything that inspires us to leave the comfort of our daily lives and venture out into nature. That is the driving ethos behind Peter Buchanan-Smith's Axe Handbook, and every page serves as a call that beckons you outside. Artfully designed and filled with the invaluable knowledge of an axe-wielding adventurer, this book celebrates the beauty of reliable tools, making things with your hands, and—above all else—experiencing the natural world. On the surface, it's a guide to owning, handling, and caring for an axe, but at its core this book is an invitation to step off of the beaten path.

About Buchanan-Smith

Peter Buchanan-Smith built a successful career as a designer, writer, and entrepreneur before founding Best Made Co. He has been an art director at The New York Times, the author of several books, and a creative collaborator with Isaac Mizrahi, Maira Kalman, Wilco, and David Byrne.

He founded Best Made Co. in 2009 because he loved making things with his hands and wanted to start a company that would not only celebrate the inherent beauty of timeless, utilitarian tools, but would also inspire people to get out from behind their screens and experience the natural world.
