About

In 1873, Bavarian businessman Levi Strauss and Reno, Nevada-based tailor Jacob Davis took out a patent on a simple, revolutionary idea: placing copper rivets on denim work pants to make them last longer. Initially created to reinforce the uniforms of miners and laborers working across the American West, that innovation eventually spawned the 501, the blueprint for all blue jeans that followed. Over the next 150 years, the San Francisco-born brand crafted one American cultural icon after another, from 505 to the Type I, II, and III Jackets to its new vintage-inspired and made-in-Japan designs. While Levi’s has evolved from its rugged workwear roots and grown into a global lifestyle brand, its history cannot be rewritten. It’s the source of one of America’s most notable exports and, to some extent, put American craftsmanship on the map.
